In this hot Texas Heat, there is nothing like a refreshing cocktail to cool you down; or, to pair with your favorite summer recipes. When it comes to tequila, quality matters, and I have so much fun playing with the many varietals from my favorite tequila makers by way of mixing them up and sipping them slowly.
Last month, I had the privilege of attending the launch for Dallas-owned Religion Tequila at Five Sixty, in Reunion Tower, where I had my first taste of this 100% Certified hand crafted premium Organic Tequila.
This tequila may be new – but, they are producing some of the finest tequila out of the gate – taking home Double Gold Medals in the 2017 Las Vegas Global Spirits Awards – for Best Tequila and Best Reposado Tequila – the first of any organic tequila.
Their secret begins with carefully sourcing and then steam cooking their 100% organic blue agave plants, grown on the mountains of Mazamitla, Mexico. The high altitude and cool temps serve as a unique foundation, ideal growing conditions for the agave plants. The slow aging process, using virgin oak barrels, gives the tequila its unique and incredibly rich flavor.
Although their Reposado could easily be sipped, I am always a fan of a good Paloma. Not only did the pros behind the bar at Five Sixty mix the perfect Paloma for us for the evening – they are allowing me to share the recipe with you!
